Le Lectier, a rare Western pear variety known as a Niigata delicacy
A treasured delicacy of Niigata, eagerly awaited each season
Le Lectier is prized for its rich aroma, intense sweetness, and silky-smooth texture. The secret behind its exceptional flavor lies in a special post-harvest process called “ripening.” Unlike other fruits, Western pears do not fully ripen on the tree. After harvest, Le Lectier pears are carefully stored and allowed to mature slowly over time—unlocking their full flavor and fragrance.

80% of Japan’s production comes from Niigata
Over 80% of all Le Lectier pears in Japan are produced in Niigata Prefecture. Within the prefecture, more than 2,000 tons are grown annually in areas such as Niigata City, Kamo, Sanjo, and Sado. One of the most prominent production regions is the Minami Ward of Niigata City, where the Shinano River and Nakano-kuchi River provide a vital water source for agriculture.
