The Niigata Saito Villa

A villa built by Kichijuro Saito, a prosperous merchant

The Former Saito Family Villa was built in 1918 by Kichijuro Saito, head of the influential Saito family—one of Niigata’s three major financial clans—and a member of Japan’s House of Peers. Covering a total area of approximately 1,300 tsubo (about 4,300 square meters), the villa features refined traditional Japanese architecture and elegant design details throughout. Its historical and cultural significance has earned it recognition as part of Japan Heritage.

A strolling garden that reflects the beauty of the seasons

This traditional stroll-style garden makes skillful use of the natural dune landscape, offering a variety of seasonal views throughout the year. In autumn, the deep green pine groves are set ablaze with vibrant reds and yellows as the maple leaves turn, creating a breathtaking scene. It is a peaceful, healing space that brings a sense of calm to all who visit.
